Hırsız ve Köpekler
The Thief and the Dogs is the story of Said, who was betrayed by his closest relatives and imprisoned, and gets out of prison with dreams of revenge. Said is both a criminal pursued by police dogs and a victim deceived by those who deviate from his political ideas. He is determined to achieve justice and destroy his enemies at all costs.
"You will need to use all your cunning to deliver a blow as strong as the endurance you showed behind the prison walls. You must be able to dive deep like a fish, fly like a hawk, climb walls like a rat, climb the walls like a rat, You should be able to pierce doors like a bullet!”
This novel, in which Nobel Prize-winning Egyptian writer Necib Mahfuz reflects his disappointment with the revolution in his country in 1952, has a special place among the author's works with its symbolic narrative.
"In Naguib Mahfouz's works, there is a sense of metaphor specific to literary figures who use their pen to directly and clearly describe the situation of their country. His books are full of love for Egypt and the Egyptian people, on the other hand, they are extremely honest and realistic."
