Her Şeyin Başı Sıfır
I was very happy. I still haven't decided whether I liked school, but I didn't like those unnecessary and incredibly boring rules. I loved science, social studies, and mathematics with the arithmetic calculations and small problems I did in that one-centered, thick, yellow straw paper notebook. I was one of the top two students in the fourth grade, which is considered the most difficult grade in primary school. I had now learned that the earth rotates and that the sky revolves around the sun. I was already revolving around my father. Did I like school despite the rules? Until the lesson was about professions. Those were the days when mothers were at home more and children were taking turns saying their fathers' professions.
-Officer.
-My father is an engineer.
-My father is the manager.(!)
There were many people saying workers in low voices. There was an electrician, a driver and a waterman. When it was my turn, I stayed silent. Even though our dear teacher said come on, I couldn't open my mouth. While there was silence and everyone was looking at me, the cruelest, cruelest voice I had ever heard echoed off the walls of the classroom and entered my ears and into my brain. My head throbbed, my insides were shattered, I felt a strange pain. It was as if the naughty Metin, the principal's son, who was one of the three most unsuccessful and naughty students in the class, was taking revenge on one of the two most hard-working students. It was astonishing how that thin and ugly voice had become so cruel, angry and sarcastic.
"Shepherd," he said, laughing... His father is a shepherd.
