In this first part of the game, Prince Hal, who lives an irresponsible life away from the palace, steps forward to protect his father, whose throne is shaken, and proves himself by using both his mind and his sword. The most striking character of the play, in which Shakespeare transforms a serious subject such as the civil war into an entertaining spectacle with funny scenes and dialogues, is undoubtedly the Prince's old friend, the pleasure-loving and deceitful Sir John Falstaff.
