"[…] Contrary to popular belief, mosques are not merely formatted temples. Religion and the state walk side by side and take on a founding role when they build a new regime, sometimes making people
It is sometimes the 'feared' place of Islamist opposition to a reform regulating the religious sphere, through the religious officials next to it and their sermons and sermons; They are among the actors of the secularization process with their time-consuming nature. […] While the new regime reproduces mosques within their own context, mosques also give their characteristics to the secularization process of the new regime." Mosques, which have a meaning far beyond being just a place of worship, and the political discourse established around mosques and actions in this direction have been the subject of debate from the first years of the Republic to the present day. In this book, Deniz Parlak examines the role of mosques in both society and government from the late Ottoman period to the early Republic, the Turkishization of the Quran and the adhan, the replacement of education in mosques with modern education, the debates on the spatial existence of mosques, and the Presidency of Religious Affairs. It aims to understand the "fuzzy" secularization of Turkey with topics such as: It investigates the allegations about mosques, which have been the subject of debate between political poles since the first years of the Republic, through the publications and archives of the period, and seeks answers to the allegations.

Mosques in the Secularization Process - From Late Ottoman to Early Republic Andrey Bitov, one of the most important names of postmodern Russian literature, created a literary masterpiece by narrating the ten days he spent in Soviet Armenia in September 1967 in an innovative style in this travelogue, which was first published in Russian in 1969 under the title Armenia Lessons: A Journey to the Not-So-Small Country. Curiously, although he had nothing to do with journalism, Bitov, who was sent to Yerevan by a newspaper to make an interview about Armenia's contemporary urban planning, rather than fulfilling the task assigned to him, he met with his close friend, the writer Hrant Matevosyan, Matevosyan's family and their friends. Together they enjoyed Armenia's nature, history, language, food, culture and most of all its people. Realizing that this unfamiliar country would be like a school for him, Bitov structured his work under the headings of "lecture" in a style never seen in travelogues. In the book, you can also find the last interview given by this great contemporary Russian writer, a review of his literature and personality, and the foreword signed by translator Sabri Gürses, which offers a comprehensive look at both the author and this work. Journey to the Land of Letters, Journey to the Land of Stones by Vasili Grossman It is the last book of the trilogy that brings together Russian writers' travelogues of Soviet Armenia, which we started with (2018) and continued with Osip Mandelstam's Journey to the Land of Colors (2018).
