Neil Faulkner, one of today's leading Marxist historians, opens new discussions on the 100th anniversary of the 1917 Great October Revolution with his book, which approaches the revolution from a different perspective and argues that it was an explosion of democracy and creativity. Yordam Kitap's Socialism Series from Past to Future includes controversial and stimulating books, each written with a different perspective and political stance, containing divergent views but complementing each other with their argumentative qualities, examining socialism experiences and historical processes based on the methodology of Marxism.

Neil Faulkner's new work, The People's History of the Russian Revolution, is a book that fits exactly this approach. Faulkner, who started his book by saying, "The Russian Revolution is probably the most misunderstood event in world history," explains that the revolution was essentially an explosion of democracy and action that rose from below, that it transformed the millions of people who participated, while it inspired tens of millions of people who followed what was happening, and that it shook the foundations of world capitalist society. He argues that the system was on the verge of overthrowing the system, but after offering a hopeful glimpse of a vastly different world, it retreated and was overthrown by counter-revolution.

In the first part of the People's History of the Russian Revolution, the period of 1825-1916 is evaluated together with the rise of the revolutionaries, the position of the regime, the emergence of Lenin and the Bolsheviks on the stage of history and the conditions of the Great War. In the second part, Faulkner focuses entirely on the "storm" of 1917; He discusses the February Revolution, the phenomenon of dual power, the October days and the counter-revolution. The third and last part covers the years 1918-38 and includes this period; It deals with the world revolution, the surrounded revolution and the Stalin debates. “As the centenary of the Russian Revolution approaches, there is a real need for an understandable and historically reliable narrative that is written from a socialist perspective and appeals to the public, among the countless books that begin to take their place on the shelves. Neil Faulkner's People's History of the Russian Revolution meets this need.” Neil Davidson
