STATE, LAW AND JUSTICE IN THE OTTOMAN

HALİL İNALCIK
“What makes nations a nation is their history and culture. A nation without history is like an individual who has lost his personality. We hope that those who read this book will learn how the Ottoman Empire kept many nations and religions together for six hundred years and how they governed.”

Halil İnalcık
The Ottomans, who maintained their sovereignty for six centuries with the understanding of state, law and justice, maintained their power with the balance of law and morality. It is praised in Western sources that anyone from the Ottoman people could sue even the ruler. On the other hand, the bureaucrats were able to dethrone the ruler when he crushed the fundamental principles. The thought that made the Ottomans the "Ottoman State" and the phrase "Devlet-i Ebed-muddet" from a slogan to a permanent mechanism always came together as an element of resistance of the forces of state-law-justice for the sake of the well-being of religion and the state. is that he lived and was kept alive.

Halil İnalcık, who broke new ground in historiography, gathered together previously published special research on the understanding of the state, the legal regime, the way laws are implemented and the methods of justice in this book. When readers finish the book, they will have learned how the Ottoman Empire kept many nations and religions together for six centuries, accompanied by the most original information.

OTTOMAN AND EUROPE
The Place of the Ottoman Empire in European History

HALİL İNALCIK

“15. Europe of the 16th and 16th centuries cannot be understood without taking into account the great political-economic power of the time, the Ottoman Empire.”

“European history and Ottoman history are two parallel histories; Therefore, the history of the two worlds should be studied comparatively.”

Halil İnalcık

Since the mid-15th century, the Ottoman Empire has played a very important role in shaping European history. It is not possible to explain concepts such as raison d'état, realpolitik, balance of power or even European identity without making reference to the Ottoman Empire. Although the mutual influences between the Ottoman Empire and Europe are obvious, unfortunately this interaction has not been taken into consideration much in Western historiography.

For some historical reasons such as the Christian Crusader tradition, the hostility that developed due to long wars, cultural alienation, and perhaps because the Ottoman Empire remained outside the Enlightenment process, the Ottomans were generally considered as the opposite and antithesis of Europe and Europeanism in Western historiography. However, there is much more than conflict between the parties.

The influence of the Ottoman Empire in shaping modern Europe, its place in Western history and its political-economic relations with Europe are discussed as a socio-cultural encounter in the Ottoman Empire and Europe , from the pen of one of our greatest historians, Halil İnalcık...

LEGENDS AND FACTS IN OTTOMAN HISTORY

HALİL İNALCIK
When we look at the sources of Ottoman history, it is possible to see many exaggerated events and legendary figures. In this case, readers are right to ask the following question: "How will we learn our own history if even its sources are like this?" In order to answer this question, Halil İnalcık, who is pointed out all over the world in terms of Ottoman historiography, prepares a special file for 18 subjects that he specifically researches and names this file: Legends and Facts in Ottoman History.
Halil İnalcık begins his book with the most important pages of the founding period, such as the contact with the Greeks during the Turkification of Anatolia, the Turkish commander Çaka Bey who conquered Izmir and frightened the Byzantine Empire, and the true story of Ertuğrul Gazi, accompanied by the latest research.

The following pages of the book include surprising and critical topics such as Çelebi Mehmed's path to power, the critical three days in the Siege of Istanbul, and the conquest of Istanbul.
The 800-year history of the Straits and Istanbul, Sultan II. The book ends with the murder of Osman, Kösem Sultan, the most curious figure of the civil war period, the situation and murder of Sultan İbrahim I, the role of the Ottomans in the spread of Protestantism in Europe, and finally İnalcık's evaluation of the Turkish History Congresses.
In Legends and Facts in Ottoman History, Halil İnalcık revives a huge empire with photographs that add originality to the research and have evidence value. Thanks to this book, you can add more knowledge to what you have been taught or see that what you know is just a myth.
