Halifeler Köyü
An honest judge who matured with loneliness sets out with the Census Clerk and soldiers in 1844 to fill the Temettüat Tahrir Book of the districts of Kütahya. Numbers should be the mirror of people so that the State should collect its taxes and the people should complete their servitude. Villages are visited and everything, living or non-living, is brought into existence by numbers. M. Altar Kaplan adds an unusual perspective to his story in Halifeler Köyü by sometimes making a tree and sometimes a dog talk.
"Aristotle was exiled. Socrates was forced to drink hemlock. Many were tried and killed. All of this was because they were considered superior in intelligence and virtue by the wretched, naive people. The peasants, crushed by wealth, run after wealth like madmen instead of thinking about the equality of wealth."
