Hacı Murat
Tolstoy's last novel, Hadji Murat, published a year after his death, is a story about the nature of war and politics and about being stuck between two different cultures and worlds.
< In this novel inspired by real events, Tolstoy tells the story of the Chechen rebel Hadji Murat, who fought heroically against the Russian Empire until the last drop of his blood. Murat, who sided with the Russians after having a disagreement with the Chechen leader Sheikh Samil, soon realizes that he has lost the trust of both sides. Although he first received a warm welcome from the Russians, he was immediately imprisoned on suspicion of being a spy. When he learns that his wife and son have fallen into the hands of the Chechens, he sets out to save his family, risking everything. This challenging story, which brings two men fighting for a common goal face to face, also sheds light on the nature of political problems dating back centuries to today.
"If it weren't for Tolstoy, literature would be a flock without a shepherd, an inextricable impasse. ."
