The 2009 issue of Socialist Register, published once a year and published in Turkish by Yordam Kitap, focuses on the issue of violence.
The scale and pervasiveness of the violence facing today's world necessitates urgent and serious analysis on the following topics: the "war on terror" and the war against resistance; terrorism and counter-terrorism; suicide bombers and torture; civil wars and anarchy; urban gang wars; Chronic violence against women.
This violence in today's world causes human tragedies on a scale comparable to both world wars. The nirvana of global capitalism, which dominates the world, means living in fear of facing a brutal death for millions of people.
The introductory article provides an overview of the scale and diversity of today's violence, while also asking once again the fundamental question: socialism or barbarism? Other articles discuss the nature and roots of exemplary cases of violence from various parts of the world. Samir Amin, John Berger, Henri Bernstein, Vivek Chibber; Some of the authors who contributed to the book.
