South Siberian Archeology and Shamanism
This book, prepared by archaeologist Sergen Çirkin, discusses the cultures and beliefs of Southern Siberia from the Neolithic Age to the Middle Ages in a chronological order. In particular, he comparatively examines beliefs such as Shamanism and the cult of ancestors, accompanied by archaeological findings and ethnographic data about the local people.
Time works differently in Siberia; The centuries that go by are of little importance there. In this large piece of land, time is frozen, just like the soil and water. It is extremely difficult to distinguish between eras and follow the flow of history in the ongoing intense "cultural continuity". The key word that will illuminate this slow-moving divine time and make it legible again is shamanism.
Shamanism; A belief system extending from prehistory to modern times is, in a sense, the collective subconscious of the Ural-Altaic peoples. This subconscious is so powerful that traces of it still insist on being a part of our lives today.
