Gündoğumuna Yolculuk
Journey to Sunrise is a story that begins inside a war plane during the Second World War. This is a journey under the guidance of Prosser, a pilot who can see the sunrise twice with an interval of seconds. The novel also traces the life of its protagonist, Jean, from his childhood to his old age. Jean pursues the truth throughout her life and eventually finds the answers she is looking for. We witness her transition from childhood to adolescence and then raising her own child. We also have the opportunity to observe the development of England, a country that was experiencing the Second World War in the background, trying to recover afterward, and where people began to communicate one-on-one with computers in the twenty-first century. We witness a multi-layered and long-lasting journey in the empire on which the sun never sets.
While Julian Barnes tells the intertwined stories of a small number of characters spread over a long period of time, he tries to clarify the fine line between life and death, and to reveal the process of solving the meaning of life. It sometimes does this through Hurricanes and sometimes through systems that resemble today's internet. Regardless of the tools he uses, Barnes' imagination grasps the reader and influences him without realizing it.
