Gorgias
Plato is undoubtedly one of the most important and influential philosophers in the history of thought. He contributed to the institutionalization of philosophy and the formation of the written tradition in philosophy, and was the initiator of the idealist philosophy tradition that would determine the entire medieval thought with its two-world metaphysics. Plato, who is also important in terms of his influence on Christian medieval philosophy and Islamic thought, addressed all the problems discussed throughout the history of thought hundreds of years ago and built the first major philosophical system. The main axis of Gorgias, one of Plato's longest and most influential dialogues, is based on rhetoric. The issues of what is really good and what is really bad for humans also have an important place in the whole work. According to Gorgias, who emphasizes emotions instead of reason and puts rhetoric instead of philosophy, rhetoric should be an art of persuasion that liberates people and gives them the power to dominate others. Socrates, on the other hand, addresses Gorgias in the first part, Polos in the second part and Callicles in the third part, and criticizes the rhetoric-based education and politics approach they represent and the moral view by applying the logical refutation technique. Gorgias, which contains the foundations of Socrates' moral teaching and can be considered as a rich source about different refutation techniques, is also an indicator of how far the rhetorical mastery that we face today in the field of politics can reach. "If there is to be a choice between an orator and a doctor in a state, in front of the public or in a meeting, a man who knows how to speak will have himself chosen, not the doctor."
