Rainbow
A Lawrence classic that was banned only six months after its publication in 1915 on the grounds that it threatened public morality, The Rainbow is a work that was far ahead of its time and liberated itself.
Lawrence describes both the transformation of a society and the complexity of the individual through the women and men of three generations of the Brangwen family living in a rural part of England. Those women who go through great pains to know themselves, who reject the traditional role of being a woman, who look for the infinite and long for other places, while at the same time they want to calm down. Although these men try to hide their powerlessness towards women with endless indifference, their humiliated feelings cause deep anger in them.
The colors of the Rainbow that enter the interior of the house fall on lovelessness, passion, will, selfishness and loyalty. The war they fight to overcome each other's wills and the peace they find with the hand of love exhaust them, and they feel a conflict within them that will last forever.
