In the modern world where it is an unchangeable rule that everything is under control, if the control mechanism suddenly breaks down, what is left of the modern person?

How does a giant site consisting of tall skyscrapers, isolated from the outside world, with a system where residents can meet all their needs without going out, look like from the outside? Like luxury site advertisements in newspapers and television? Trustworthy? Hot? Rich? Peaceful?

The story of "Skyscraper" begins in exactly such a world.? ?The small seeds of hatred that spread in the hearts of the skyscraper residents turn into an unimaginably violent war that becomes increasingly brutal between "those on the upper, middle and lower floors". At the center of the chaos is the cathedral of consumption, a giant shopping mall, which is the heart of the site.

What follows is a tale of modernism told through Ballard's mouth. And like all modernism fairy tales, it doesn't end well. The dystopian world drawn by Ballard is frightening, full of violence, but real: The explosion of a consumer culture blended with the search for power, authority and possession, and the resentments and resentments that this search brings...
