Girnataci

Girnatacı, which won the 2012 Everest First Novel Award, tells the story of love, brotherhood, loyalty, disloyalty and scattered lives. The novel, which spans from the 1890s to 1955 and oscillates between Istanbul and Chicago, is accompanied by the sad sound of "sol girnata". Seventeen-year-old Osman, who plays the girnata at Küplü Meyhane in Galata, was introduced to Sultan II. His whole life changes when he takes part in the musical delegation sent to the Columbus Exhibition opened in Chicago's Jackson Park in 1893, by the order of Abdulhamid.
