The Rise of Gezi, and the Fall of Liberalism
"Many of the activists in Gezi, unlike Occupy Wall Street and similar movements in the West, do not reject traditional forms of political organization and tactics. However, in the movements seen in the West in the last few years, it was costly for them to stay away from formal politics. On the other hand, Turkish and Kurdish activists, unlike Arab protesters, live and act in conditions of semi-democracy and are therefore well ahead of current political experience. In short, the leaderless revolution has not yet reached Turkey. However, the disadvantage of the Gezi Resistance is that the West and If Turkish and Kurdish activists find new ways to overcome these and similar obstacles, Turkey will have the potential to add a new dimension to the wave of rebellions seen globally after 2011.
