The old woman and her son live in the same building as the Johnsons in Maggie the Street Girl, and we even cross paths with familiar characters. However, George and his mother have a more loving relationship than their neighbors. The mother constantly worries about and protects her son, while his son dreams of a relatively independent and free life. Stephen Crane has become one of the important representatives of the realism movement with his works about ordinary people and life in the slums. He uses a symbolic and highly ironic style when describing the helplessness of the individual in the face of bad and unfavorable social conditions.
