Geğdz Hancarner-Fake Geniuses-Armenian
The novel Geğdz Hancarner (Fake Geniuses) by Zabel Yesayan, one of the important representatives of Western Armenian literature, which was serialized in Arevelyan Mamul magazine in Izmir between 1905-1907 and later published as a book in Istanbul in 1910, is being republished under the Aras label. This work, which is about the lives and artistic pursuits of a group of students and young intellectuals from Istanbul in Paris and the days they spend away from home, is also a parody of people whom the author knows personally and who will become famous literary figures in later years. The novel, which centers on the death of a young student in Paris, far from his hometown Istanbul, also analyzes the attitude of young people towards this death and the characters that this attitude reveals. While Yesayan created Dacad Çarıkyan, the protagonist of Geğdz Hancarner, based on the famous thinker Diran Çırakyan, the letter Çırakyan wrote to his friend Mikayel Gürçyan about this novel and its author meets the reader uncensored for the first time.
