Gece Vardiyası
In his stories, Fakir Baykurt deals with problems such as the harshness of village life, poverty, ignorance, bigotry, superstition and exploitation, and deals with the material and spiritual world of the villagers from a socialist and realistic perspective. Based on observations and live testimonies, the author occasionally uses a humorous language by bringing daily spoken language into the story; It strikingly depicts the "ordinary person" who is stuck between the wheels of bureaucracy but harbors hope within him, together with the atmosphere of the place he lives in. Bektas was heavy. His villager Muharrem was suddenly gone. They had been working side by side for fourteen years. But there was no break. They argued frequently because their political views did not match. Their arguments were turning into fights. While he was saying this, his seventeen years in Germany had passed. Over a period of time, Muharrem's belief in God increased. He began to pay more attention to prayer and ablution. They were only able to stay together in a room at the Single Workers' Heimi for four months before bringing their wives and children. They left. He was saying to Muharrem Bektas, "You are a deep leftist!.." Bektash responded to him by saying, "Your head is charred and not working because you have been working in the furnaces for years!" Their relationship was getting harder day by day.
He was unconscious now. It was stuck somewhere deep in his consciousness. If he was sober at that moment, he would definitely find the way the accident happened in his mind. The weight of the thousand-meter-thick earth's crust collapsed at the edge of the trench, saying "Hissstaaaak!..". That scene would remain in his mind like a painful picture as long as he lived. A rock the size of a gas can had crushed half of Albert Hartwick's head. The piece of rock had carved out the remaining half of the brain as if it were carving a stone full of yoghurt. If he lived, Bektash would remember this sight and go crazy. Only the right hand of his villager Muharrem was left outside. His pious body was flattened by the rocks in seconds.
