Fransız Filozofu Kimdir? Kavramların Toplumsal Yaşamı 1880-1980
The figure of the French philosopher undoubtedly holds an important place in the intellectual picture of our age, as in the examples of Bergson, Sartre, Deleuze or Foucault. Although his excesses, eccentricities, teaching style, and clothing are fetishized by some, the French philosopher's upbringing in the last century, his working practices, and the social sphere to which he generally belongs are not well known. A real sociology of this figure, who was both deified and heavily criticized, has never been done before. Jean-Louis Fabiani's work fills this huge gap: What could be the factors that have enabled philosophy to gain such importance in France since 1880? How are the relationships between philosophy learning and political context established? How is the field of action shaped for the philosopher who plays different roles in academia, public opinion and the publishing world? Showing that the field in which concepts take shape is a social field, Fabiani reads the great thinkers of our age as sociological actors, while making the codes of the cultural context in which their thoughts were born and developed understandable for us. This work, which can be read as both a history of French philosophy and a cultural history of France, creates an extremely interesting map of French thought with its little-known aspects.
