Modern science, which is described as the transition from vita contemplativa, that is, spectator life, to vita activa, active life, took place with a great upheaval in which man declared his domination over nature. Cruising largely involved theoria; man tried to comprehend the nature in which he lived, either as a part of it or as a whole in which he was a part. Modern science has reversed this relationship. By reducing ratio to number, measure and logical relationship, the mind turned nature into an object that it looks at from the outside, outside itself, other than itself: an object of knowledge and knowing. Thus, nature turned into an object that the mind could not reach, could not comprehend from within, but dominated to the extent it could not reach, and consumed and destroyed to the extent it dominated. This otherness, this dominating outside view, this destructive duality was not only directed at nature. These were the factors that determined the view on people, society and even the individual. Society was now something established and regulated by reason. "The good life" was a project that had to be realized. Just as nature can be understood from the outside and can only be known by domination, society can only be known in this way. Knowing had become synonymous with doing. He who knew what a good life was had the right to make, establish and realize it. Kurtul Gülenç's book, The Frankfurt School, deals with one of the most fundamental criticisms directed at such an understanding of science and society. This book, in which the "critical theory" of the Frankfurt School is evaluated mostly through the writings of Max Horkheimer, not only outlines the views of the environment, but also offers new suggestions on methodological, philosophical and political levels regarding the problems of contemporary philosophy of social sciences.
