Frankenstein - Or Modern Prometheus Book Description Frankenstein or Modern Prometheus, the masterpiece of Gothic literature that has not lost its popularity for 200 years, tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, who is full of ambition to dominate nature in an age when scientific thought is on the rise, and his escape from his creature, which he brought to life with the principles of galvanism by combining corpse parts, and which his creator rejected with disgust. is the tragic story of the attempt of the creature whose love he withheld from this cruel irresponsibility to take revenge. The first edition of this cult work, which was born as a result of the days Mary Shelley spent with Lord Byron, John Polidori and Percy Bysshe Shelley at the Diodati Villa on the shores of Lake Leman in the summer of 1816, was published anonymously in 1818. The work, translated into Turkish by Gülsüm Can, was prepared on the basis of this first, more radical and anti-theistic version of the novel, by annotating it in comparison with the 1831 version, which was more popular and softened in line with Christian moralism. “No one can understand the different emotions that broke out inside me like a whirlwind at the first rush of success. Life and death were imaginary boundaries that I had to cross in the first place. Then I would pour a shower of light into our dark world. A new species would thank me for being its source and creator, and many happy and wonderful species would owe their existence to me.” (From the Promotional Bulletin)
