“All my predictions and hopes turned out to be in vain, and like an angel imitating God, I was chained to hell forever. My imagination was vivid, my power of analysis and ability to apply were strong. Thanks to the combination of these qualities, I was able to develop and realize the idea of creating a human being. Even now, I remember with excitement the feelings I had when I completed my work. I wandered around the gardens of heaven in my dreams, sometimes carried away by the enthusiasm of my power and sometimes wondering about its possible consequences. Great hopes and ambitions were instilled in me since my childhood, but now look how destroyed I am!”

These words, spoken by Victor Frankenstein, a young science-loving student, when he saw the creature he created, were interpreted as a reflection of God's disappointment in abandoning his own children. Frankenstein's monster, condemned to loneliness and alienation, represented the fate of modern man, who was left alone in this world by the creator who gave life to dead nature. Shelley's Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus, XVIII. imagines the dire cultural consequences of the Enlightenment ambitions of 19th-century Europe. The Enlightenment desire, which turns everything into an object, including human nature and the body, while turning to "penetrating the secrets of nature" by making use of science, drags Frankenstein into an adventure that will end in regret: Frankenstein's monster is actually the mind's own monster, and now not only this monster, The mind that created it should also be feared.

20 contemporary photographers from Turkey prepared the cover photos of 20 books with their original interpretations for this special series of Can Classics.

Bulunmayan kitapların bulunduğu, kaliteli hizmetin adresi, ender bir kitapevi...İsminin kürtce olması da ayrıca sebeb-i tercîhim...
