Feminist Tarih yazımında Sınıf ve Cinsiyet
In this book, which brings together Leonore Davidoff's articles, activities and segments that are marginalized and excluded in traditional historiography are examined. While investigating the power dynamics that cause these issues to be ignored as too "private", power relations are discussed not as simple and mechanical relations, but in all their complexity and multidimensionality. The author, who examines how binary distinctions such as private and public, culture and nature, home and work, physical and intellectual, were established in the 19th century in England, reveals the necessity of new conceptualizations while showing the functionality of these distinctions in terms of power. According to Davidoff, examining concrete historical facts (family/kinship relations, housework, servants, etc. in various contexts) is of great importance in terms of overcoming these hierarchical distinctions and going beyond existing models of social analysis. The compilation also includes Ferhunde Özbay's article titled "Hand Daughters in Their Houses: Concubines, Adoptive Children, Brides". Utilizing the conceptual expansions brought by Davidoff, Özbay investigates in depth the establishment of the concept of "the other woman" in the private sphere. We think that this book, prepared for publication by Ayse Durakbasa, will pave the way for new studies with similar concerns.
