Philosophy Stage, mostly Foucault's writings in the 1960s and early 1970s? and includes the interviews he gave. During this period, Foucault was on the agenda not only of France, but of the entire Western intellectual world, and created a heated debate especially about the research and conceptualization methods he used in his studies. A line of criticism that claimed that Foucault's studies, which he called "archaeology", were actually a kind of structuralism and left out the historical dimension, was integrated with the criticisms of structuralism in general. A significant part of the texts that make up Philosophy Stage are a comprehensive response to such criticisms. Discussing in detail the content of the concept of structuralism, especially its relationship with history, Foucault states, on the one hand, that this movement initially rejected only a certain type of understanding of history; On the other hand, he emphasizes that it has turned into a way of thinking and analysis that expands and diversifies in a way that makes it increasingly difficult to define, and that is exactly why there can be little in common with the thinkers classified under the concept of "structuralist". Foucault, who showed a similar reaction to his own thought being defined as postmodern or poststructuralist in later years, expresses that he does not believe that these concepts can be precisely defined, just like structuralism, and rejects such classifications.
One of the reasons that makes Philosophy Stage important is that it gives clues that can break some stereotypical interpretations about the path followed by Foucault's line of thought. It is frequently expressed that there are important breaks in this line, and that these breaks, each of which ushers in a new era, become evident not only in the method used by the thinker, but also in the research areas he chooses and the attitude he adopts towards basic philosophical questions. However, some texts in the Philosophy Stage, which point to a deep continuity in Foucault's thought, require this view to be viewed with skepticism.
Philosophy Stage offers a rich background to discuss not only Foucault, but also the intellectual names and movements that influenced Foucault. Especially within the framework of Foucault's hermeneutics, Nietzsche, Freud and Marx; While writing about Jean Hyppolite, he mentioned Kant and Hegel; While describing genealogy, Nietzsche; While introducing Georges Canguilhem, he also mentions an intense tradition extending from Nietzsche to the Frankfurt School; His writings, in which he discusses neo-Kantianism in his article on Cassirer, and finally his contemporary Deleuze, whom he sees as a thinker who will leave his mark on the twentieth century, are texts that can look at the practice of philosophy from both inside and outside and take the critical tradition to unexpected points with great mastery.
