Philosophical Studies
This book aims to present the view of historical materialism as richly as possible in a relatively small volume, based on original texts. This compilation, prepared by the French Marxist Emile Bottigelli nearly half a century ago, is a selection of the most famous texts written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels on this subject.
Some of the texts were published as books or articles, some remained as manuscripts, and some were fragments of letters.
A few of the important questions that the reader will find answers to here can be listed as follows: How did Marx and Engels understand Hegel's dialectics and how did they use it? What is the fundamental deficiency in metaphysical materialism, which finds its most striking example in Feuerbach's thought, in its understanding of man as a social being? What is dialectical materialism's understanding of natural sciences and historical sciences? What should be the method in social sciences? What does it mean that the economic factor is ultimately decisive in social relations? What are the forms of influence and weight of the state, politics, religion, ideology, philosophy and sciences within the system of mutual determinations? How are social determination and individual freedom compatible?
