Fasti is one of the most beautiful works written by Ovid, one of the leading poets of Latin poetry. The work, written in Elegeia meter, consists of six books, starting on the first day of January and ending on the last day of June. It is unclear whether Ovid wrote the Fasti as twelve books for twelve months, as we use it today. Although he stated that this was his intention in another work, he may not have been able to continue writing due to an unexpected exile sentence, or he may have lost his manuscripts in exile.

Fasti, which has a rich narrative, can be examined in three main sections: historical, astronomical and religious. The historical section contains Roman legends and annals appended to the calendar with exact dates. In the astronomical section, information about the rising and setting of constellations is discussed. In the religious section, which forms the backbone of the work, the identified festivals, religious ceremonies and rituals are explained interestingly and with mythological stories.

Fasti, which was translated from its Latin original and brought into Turkish for the first time by Asuman Coşkun Abuagla, includes only the first six months of the calendar we use today, but it allows us to learn why the months are named this way and their unique characteristics.
