fascisms
Italian and German fascisms deeply affected European history. Fascism, which transformed not only political systems but also social structure, caused the bloodiest pages of human history to be written. However, what makes fascism special is not only its brutality, but also its face that cripples social life, mentality patterns, cultural perception and wealth. Another feature of fascism is that the modern vision and the ideals of the Enlightenment have been carried to the extreme in a negative sense. Fascism exists by directing the contradictions inherent in modern society towards different ethnic and religious communities, creating the perception of an "internal" enemy, and feeding this perception with mass murders. "Fascisms" emphasize costumes, rituals, ceremonial excitement, and mass "demonstrations" of primitive emotions; Propaganda, violence and the sharing of "hysteria" by the masses are the most important weapons of fascism.
Henri Michel is a historian who took part in the French resistance movement during the Second World War and witnessed the events firsthand. In Fascisms, while discussing the similarities and differences between Italian and German fascisms, their mobilization powers, the social classes and masses they appeal to, it also presents an overview of political movements with similar fascist characters in Europe, America and Africa.
