Paulo Freire is an educator who devoted his life to the education of the oppressed, especially the education of illiterate adults. In Pedagogy of the Oppressed, he proposes not only an alternative pedagogy to be implemented in certain educational centers, but also a politics of liberation whose tools are libertarian as well as its aims. According to him, politics is an educational process in the broadest sense of the word. First of all, Freire rejects the banking model of education. In this model Students (or the oppressed) are passive beings, empty vessels on whom knowledge is invested. Knowledge is bestowed upon them, they are not the product of an active research process. In this model, the world is a closed, static order. It is presented as a given, completed reality. It is not a dialogue, but a one-sided imposition. This is a model that pushes the oppressed to fatalism, causes them to fear freedom, and therefore reinforces the domination over them. Freire argues that this is a model that is not imposed on the oppressed, but is created in dialogue with them. According to him, no practice that reproduces authoritarian relations by continuing to treat the oppressed as objects can be liberating, no matter how revolutionary it thinks itself. Liberation is not something to be gifted to the oppressed; It is the product of their participation as subjects in the struggle for liberation. The model suggested by Freire enables people to identify the problems in their relations with the world and to see the world as a material that people use in the task of creating themselves. It sees people as unfinished, unfinished and therefore creative beings in the process of becoming. Therefore, the content of education is to establish a dialogue with the oppressed and to develop their thematic issues. The prerequisite for dialogue is to believe in people and to be able to love. What Freire writes and does is the exact opposite of the guiding thoughts and practices we are accustomed to in Turkey. Freedom is not a place to be reached by doing something, it is something inherent in structures.
