The Landlady - Hasan Ali Yücel Classics
Famous critic V. Belinski talked about Dostoyevsky as the great writer of the future upon this work. The writer was arrested in 1849 on the grounds that he was a member of the Petrashevsky group opposed to the oppressive regime of Nicholas I. While he was about to be shot, his sentence was commuted to exile and compulsory military service. After completing his sentence and returning from Siberia, he started publishing the Vremya magazine in Petersburg and regained his former fame with the novels he wrote. The Landlady, Mr. Proharchin, The Novel of Nine Letters and Polzunkov, published between 1847 and 1848, were among his best stories.
