Young pilot Jerry Burton is injured in a plane crash and, following his doctor's advice, he takes his sister Joanna with him and settles in Lymstock, an ordinary, quiet provincial town where little secrets are shared. However, this peaceful atmosphere is soon disrupted by a series of unsigned and hateful letters circulating around the town. While it was initially thought that this was done by a jealous woman, the incident turns into a frightening situation with the letter that drives Mrs. Symmington to commit suicide. Although everyone thinks that this is a suicide, there is someone who does not believe it: Miss Marple.
