What the Armenians experienced in 1915 has been the subject of many studies, especially in the last twenty years, but Figan Established in the Armenian House does something that has perhaps never been tried before and searches for the traces and effects of the Great Disaster in the epics told by folk artists. While academician Ayhan Aktar discusses the epics of the minstrels who survived the genocide and clung to life in the Aleppo region, printed in Turkish with Armenian letters, he focuses on the individual experiences of their authors in 1915 and after, and draws attention to the basic issues of post-genocide life from different aspects. While these epics, in a sense, tell the story of the survivors, the discrimination they suffered, what they went through while trying to establish a new life after the deportation, they also show the moods in which they faced what happened to them and how they perceived the world and what was happening around them. While some of the epics in the book describe the deadly deportation march, some of the subsequent conflicts in cities such as Antep, Urfa and Maraş, some describe the difficulties of life in Aleppo, a new home for Armenians, or the events around the "oddities" such as fashion and dance that come with modernizing life. addresses social tensions. Aktar presents all this material and the relevant background to the reader, crafted like a jewel, with masterful historiography.
