The present work was serialized in Arabic in the Beirut-based al-Ahrar newspaper in 1932-33 as the memoirs of Aziz Bey (Hüseyin Aziz Akyürek), who served as the Director of General Police in the Ottoman Empire in the second half of the First World War, and subsequently It was published as a book with the title of Syria and Lebanon fi Harbi'l-Âlemiyye: el-İstikhbarat ve'l-Casusiyye fi'd-Devleti'l- ' Usmaniyye .

This book, which we translated into Turkish under the title Intelligence Wars: Espionage Activities in Syria and Lebanon in the First World War , has a very rich content, especially on intelligence, espionage and propaganda. The book covers everything from non-Muslim groups in the Middle East to separatist Arab movements and their covert activities, from Cemal Pasha's negotiations with the French for Syria and Lebanon to Enver and Talat Pasha's plans to turn Syria into a Khedive, from the Ottoman intelligence structure and counter-espionage activities in the region to secret funds, the danger of Zionism. and many situations and events, from the Nili espionage network to the regional press, are shed light. On the other hand, prominent historical figures in the Arab lands under Ottoman rule, and more specifically in Syria and Lebanon, are also mentioned. Emir Şekib Arslan, Aziz Ali el-Mısrî, Şarl Debbas, Thomas Edward Lawrence, Cevat Rifat Atilhan, İzzet el-Cündî and Esad Şukayrî, as well as some names in the 4th Army intelligence structure and enemy spies, security guards and intelligence officers of the Ottoman Empire. It is evaluated through the eyes of a person who is.

In the 87 years since its publication, historians fluent in Arabic have used this memoir, which does not have a Turkish original, as a reliable source due to its importance and used it in their studies. However, they ignored the strong evidence that Aziz Bey was not in Syria and Lebanon during the period in the memoirs and the questions that this evidence might raise.

Dr. Polat Safi, in his introduction article based on the question of whether Aziz Bey actually wrote the memoir, underlines the importance of the text in terms of history, especially the history of intelligence, by reading the period, place and people that are the subject of the book, in the context in which the book was published, and underlines the importance of the text in terms of history, especially the history of intelligence. draws attention to its value. At the same time, it examines how Turkish intelligence and unconventional warfare affected our history at its founding stage.

Figan was Established in the Armenian House - 1915 Epics and Aleppo What the Armenians experienced in 1915 has been the subject of many studies, especially in the last twenty years, but Figan Established in the Armenian House does something that has perhaps never been tried before and searches for the traces and effects of the Great Disaster in the epics told by folk artists. While academician Ayhan Aktar discusses the epics of the minstrels who survived the genocide and clung to life in the Aleppo region, printed in Turkish with Armenian letters, he focuses on the individual experiences of their authors in 1915 and after, and draws attention to the basic issues of post-genocide life from different aspects. While these epics, in a sense, tell the story of the survivors, the discrimination they suffered, what they went through while trying to establish a new life after the deportation, they also show the moods in which they faced what happened to them and how they perceived the world and what was happening around them. While some of the epics in the book describe the deadly deportation march, some of the subsequent conflicts in cities such as Antep, Urfa and Maraş, some describe the difficulties of life in Aleppo, a new home for Armenians, or the events around the "oddities" such as fashion and dance that come with modernizing life. addresses social tensions. Aktar presents all this material and the relevant background to the reader, crafted like a jewel, with masterful historiography.
