Eristic Dialectics The Art of Justification
German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, one of the important figures of 19th century philosophy and a student of Kant, describes the "Eristic Dialectics" method, which is the art of being right in arguments under all circumstances, with roots in ancient Greek philosophy, in this text he wrote in 1830.
Schopenhauer, who focuses on the "validity" of a thesis in the eyes of the audience rather than its objective "correctness and fairness" and explains the ways to defeat the other party in defense, discussion and argument with philosophical "tricks", inevitably comments on other philosophers' ideas on the subject and methodological problems.
