Emile Verhaeren-Portrait of a Modern Poet
Emile Verhaeren-Portrait of a Modern Poet Book Description
Famous Belgian poet Emile Verhaeren (1855-1916) gained fame as Europe's Walt Whitman with his intense image texture in his poems and his attitude that affirms the modern age determined by technique.
Stefan Zweig met him in Belgium in the summer of 1902 and immediately became friendly with the poet. He wrote his first essay about Verhaeren in 1904, and continued his studies on Verhaeren in the following years. When Verhaeren died in an unfortunate train accident in 1916, the First World War had already separated the two writers.
Zweig chose to publish his works by compiling his memories about Verhaeren.
