Nabi Yagci, the last Secretary General of the Communist Party of Turkey, founded in 1920, looks at the history of TKP-TBKP with a micro-history approach, based on what is reflected in his own struggle practice, and chooses a new narrative style accordingly.

The main thesis of this book is to look at history again in the light of this experience by transforming past struggle practices into experience and to interpret history rather than telling it. From this point of view, Nabi Yagci, who looks critically at the history of the left movement, approaches the past with the question "what did we change or could not change?" rather than "what did we do?" This question is the test question of Türkiye's left movement on democracy.

Stating that the absence of a radical democratic opposition in our country today creates deep despair, he said: “Under the conditions of the September 12 fascist dictatorship, when we returned to the country for legalization in 1987, there was no such opposition. "The experience of our practice of fighting for legality/freedom shows that it is possible to create a radical change of mentality in society, even under the most difficult conditions, and in this way to intervene in the nature of a radical democratic opposition," he brings a hopeful look to today.

He defines the opposition spirit that led them to success as follows: “...Therefore, freedom was not an abstract idea for us, but a need like bread or water, and moreover, it was a need for each of us individually, we wanted our freedom with the greedy desire of a child whose bread was taken away from him. “We wanted it passionately.”
