Sophocles (495-406 BC): Sophocles, whose name is remembered first among the most important writers of Greek tragedy, has a special place with his mastery of handling the subjects and portraying the characters in the play. He improved his theater technique and gave importance to dialogues, decor and costumes. In his tragedies, there is an orderly internal structure that is not seen in the writers of the period. He always prioritizes the problem of fate in his works. He received more than twenty awards in the competitions he participated in. Among the works of Sophocles, who wrote one hundred and twenty-three tragedies, only Aias, Antigone, King Oedipus, Electra, Trachis Women, Philoktetes and Oedipus have survived to the present day in Colonos.
