There was once a large Armenian population in these lands, they were embedded in the fabric of society. In 1915, this tissue disintegrated. In this geography where nationalism desired to create a homogeneous nation and society, there was no place for Armenians - other than a small minority. However, events that were not talked about but were well known, such as the massacre and the distribution of the remaining goods, had taken their place in social memory. These continued their existence by appearing and disappearing in memoirs, novels, stories and poetry. In Armenians in Literature, Murat Belge examines the "Armenians" who remain stuck in social memory and emerge through literature. How did Armenians take part in which novel, in which period? When did they become "enemies" while they were a normal part of society? How was murder handled in our literature? How was the "new" era brought about by the massacre and transfer of property described in the novels? What happened to the Armenians in the literary heritage transferred from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic? While Murat Belge poses these questions to the novels and poems he examines, he also examines with what mental performances nationalism emerges in literature, how the repressed comes to consciousness and how it affects the literary language.
