Literature and Evil

Deeply affecting not only the literature of our age but also the field of thought; Shocking writers such as Derrida, Foucault and Barthes; Georges Bataille, who is outspoken in his polemics with Breton and Sartre, deals with one of the most important facts of our lives, Evil, in Literature and Evil. Moreover, by claiming that Evil does not require lack of morality, but on the contrary, it requires "high morality" that disregards morality. It reveals that exceeding the prohibitions and violating the rules, especially lust and death, requires "high morality", and that provoking and violating life is also possible in this way. According to him, freedom from Evil can enable us to reach extreme forms of value, and no one can go "further" than that. Freedom is always the door to rebellion. True freedom is to provoke and exceed life. Revealing the Evil in Freedom means opposing the conciliatory, conformist way of thinking. The side of goodness is the pure side of submission and obedience. In the freedom of evil we find horror: murder committed by passion, sacrifice, war, massacres and riots, lies and black magic; They are actions in which the universal bearable is tested, in which the sadist appears as a virtuous person, in a kind of spiritual drunkenness in which the boundary between the feeling of guilt and the pleasure based on passion becomes blurred...
