Pierre Bourdieu is one of the names that left his mark on today's social science world. His works, which show great diversity in terms of the fields they examine, have influenced and continue to influence researchers from various disciplines all over the world.
This book, which offers a general overview of Bourdieu's world, consists of three parts: In the introduction that constitutes the first part, Wacquant makes a compact but extremely in-depth evaluation of all of Bourdieu's works. In the second chapter, in his interviews with Wacquant, Bourdieu makes an accounting of his intellectual adventure as a sociologist and anthropologist. He explains his work and the basic concepts he uses - structure, field, strategy, habitus, cultural capital, interest, illusio, symbolic power - in as simple and understandable a language as possible. While responding to criticisms directed at him by pointing out the reasons for the misunderstanding of his works, he both draws a general view of the field of social sciences and clearly reveals his unique position in this field. The third part of the book includes the lectures he gave at a research seminar he held with graduate students. In this chapter, Bourdieu starts from practice and reaches epistemological principles while conveying his understanding of research to students.
Answers for a Reflexive Anthropology is an excellent introduction to the works of Bourdieu, perhaps the most important of contemporary social scientists.
