James Allen was born in Leicester, England, in 1864 and worked for a long time as the personal assistant of a large British company executive. He “retired” at the age of 38, took up writing, and moved with his wife to a small country house in Ilfracombe. He wrote more than 20 works until he passed away suddenly at the age of 48.
