Thoughts - Hardcover Book
Blaise Pascal (1623-1662): French mathematician, physicist, philosopher and writer. He was eleven years old when he started writing. He taught himself geometry and wrote Essai sur Les Coniques [Essay on Cones] at the age of sixteen. To help his father, who worked in finance, he designed an arithmetic machine, which is today considered the first calculator. He solved the cycloid problem using the method we call "integral" today. He worked on the issue of "emptiness" and wrote essays and reviews on this subject. He also dealt with practical matters, such as the establishment of the first omnibus line in Paris. In 1652 he entered the Monastery of Port-Royal and devoted himself to science. He wrote the Lettres Provinciales [Provincial Letters] and, in 1664, the Apologie de la Religion Chrétienne [Defence of the Christian Religion], which was the result of his decision to devote himself entirely to God. His greatest work, Thoughts, was published as a book for the first time in 1670 with the efforts of his relatives after his death. Despite its theses that seem difficult to satisfy the modern mind, Thoughts, which are full of insight, inspiration and surprising observations that have carried its author to this day, are in Turkish for the first time with their full text in the Hasan Âli Yücel Classics Series.
