Düş Dokumacısı
Douwe Draaisma's process of writing the book began with him doing research on the dream life of blind people upon the request of a friend. "Congenitally blind people do not have visual images in their dreams, but what happens then? Is that space filled with sounds, smells and touch impressions? Can a dream without images still be called a dream?"
Of course, these questions soon brought with them other questions: "If the images in dreams are actually experienced 'like a kind of movie', why do so many people find it very difficult to answer the question of whether they dream in black and white or in color? Can a person realize that he is dreaming while dreaming? .. . Are erotic dreams the expression of the deepest sexual desires? Why is the fear in nightmares related to the feeling of being unable to move? Why do dreams of flying always leave pleasant feelings in the dreamer? ... And of course, the most difficult question: Do dreams have any meaning?
Considering that almost everyone dreams, even if we sometimes do not remember them, these are questions that we may all have wondered at some point. Draaisma, on the other hand, discusses these and similar topics in its usual pleasant conversational style, blending scientific findings with interesting anecdotes.
