Still Don Volume 3
Back Cover Text (From the Promotional Bulletin)
It is difficult to find another novel that fits the definition of "river novel" so well with its content and length as well as with the name of the novel.
Still Don, one of the masterpieces of Mikhail Sholokhov and Russian literature, is a novel that flows like a river with its fluent narrative.
Gregor Melehov, the main hero of the novel, is a character who has two basic tendencies side by side and in conflict in his consciousness. One of these is his deep love for peasant life, work, nature, especially the Don River, and his passion for independence; The other is the class awareness that he has difficulty in bringing to the consciousness that he is one of the millions of peasants who rebelled to get their rights.
Another important issue in the focus of Stagnant Don is the impossible love between our heroes Gregor and Aksinya. As the pages of the novel flow along with the Don River, the following question begins to circulate in the reader's mind: Will these two interesting heroes bow to the pressure of traditions, or will they stay and fight in the social environment that excludes them? What if the October Revolution offers them completely different opportunities to step out of the circle and choose a brand new way of life?
This great work was translated into Turkish as a product of the joint and intense efforts of our three translators. Hasan Ali Ediz compared the translation made by Mete Ergin and Gani Yener with the Russian original. Readers will enjoy following Sholokhov's brilliant literary style, which fuses Russian folk literature with Russian classical literature, in this meticulous translation.

“Comrades, what does 'commune' mean?”
“Can we join too, will they allow it?”
“So what is the Communist Party?”
The speaker pressed his hand to his chest and explained patiently:
“Comrades! The Communist Party is a volunteer business. The people join the party voluntarily because they want to fight for the noble cause of liberating the workers and peasants from the oppression of capitalists and landlords.”
