Dünya Tarihi-10.1/2 Bölümünde
Julian Barnes's novel, World History in 10 1/2 Chapters, is not one of the world histories we know and are accustomed to. First of all, its structure is not formed by dry and conceptual thoughts, but by the aesthetic experiences that give birth to those thoughts. The second is an alternative history that deviates from traditional perspectives, or even an opposing History of Humanity from the eyes of Nature, so to speak. Then, interestingly, a fractional date with a residue. What is this anymore? This residue is important enough to form a section of the book ("Parenthesis"); Because Julian Barnes sees the concept of "love" as an indispensable parameter in the equation of World History with many unknowns and gives it an extremely important and meaningful place in his novel.
In his novel, Barnes, with his unique irony, tells us an extraordinary variety of stories, but above all, it asks questions:
What kind of an interpretation of History would emerge if the Noah legend were told from the point of view of a woodworm? If Palestinian terrorists seize a cruise ship sailing in the Mediterranean and threaten to kill the passengers to meet their demands, what kind of echo would the Noah legend have in contemporary times? XVI. What kind of a lawsuit would we face if the residents of the village of Mamirolle in 19th century France took the damage to court? And how can one of humanity's oldest dreams, seeing yourself wake up in your dream, change your views on immortality?
This is how Julian Barnes, in his novel 10 1/2 World History, offers us such different but at the same time so many things. It tells stories with common denominators. It deals with the universal themes of literature such as survival and love, art and reality, and attempts to discover the deep parallels and unity of experience between all these experiences through different stories from different periods of history, and while doing this, it uses a wide range of expressions, from the language of the Bible to slang. He moves his pen expertly in it. Of course, bearing the mark of his unique ironic style throughout the whole novel...
World History in 10 1/2 Chapters is a striking novel that we will definitely see the world differently after reading and that will not be easily erased from memory.
