The Metamorphoses, written in hexametron, a meter specific to the epic genre, and consisting of fifteen books, are one of the fruits of Ovid's maturity period. Homer, Hesiod, ancient Greek tragedians, Alexandrian and Roman poets and many other authors were used as sources in the work, which consists of stories told by intertwining with mythology. These stories, written with perfect mastery, flow in an uninterrupted narrative, connected to each other in the context of time and place, as if by invisible chains made by Vulcan, the god of fire. There is no doubt that the work, which has survived to the present day thanks to the copies found by Ovidius' friends, will always remain a masterpiece.
