Outward Journey
Rachel Vinrace, who lost her mother at a young age and grew up under the supervision of her aunts, was twenty-four when she set off on a South American voyage on her father's Euphrosyne ship, accompanied by her uncle Richard and her aunt Helen, who taught her "how to live." is old. Raised in a closed environment, Rachel, who has an extremely sensitive and inquisitive personality, meets the young writer Terence Hewett on the ship and has an emotional relationship. This is his first novel, which he completed but was unable to publish in 1915 because he suffered a severe mental breakdown. This book, which is not as experimental as the author's other works in terms of novel technique and written in a style close to the traditional narrative, heralds a genius writer who changed the structure of the art of the novel with his ability to reach the depths of the inner worlds of the heroes, his poetic language and the sad/humorous atmosphere that spreads throughout the text.
Journey Outward is a work that carries the reader to high emotions while preserving its internal integrity, just like Wuthering Heights, albeit in a different way.
