Letters to the Ostrich 1 - Human First

Haldun Taner's first prose book, First Human, consists of articles published under the title Devekuşuna Letters in Tercüman newspaper between 1957 and 1960. The name Human First was added to the book, which was published in 1960 under the name Letters to the Ostrich, in later editions.

In his foreword to the first edition of the book, Taner said, "The author of these lines has been in favor of an impartial control of intellectuals against every government in Turkey in every period... In backward societies that have been deprived of the tradition of culture, freedom of thought, criticism and democracy for long centuries, the uncontrolled lust for power and "History has shown us more than once what tyranny narrow party monopoly can lead people to and what deadlocks the nation can lead to."
