Denemeler
In the face of Pilate's terrible question, which has echoed throughout the ages, Montaigne gives Jesus' divine answer, which is more human, more profane, and in a different sense:
"What is the truth?"
"The truth is me!"
So Montaigne believes that the only thing he can truly know is himself.
This is what leads him to talk about himself; because he finds knowing himself more important than anything else. People and everything should throw the mask off their faces, he says. He explains himself to throw off the mask. Since the mask belongs to the country and era rather than the person himself, people are separated from each other because of the mask.
Thus, we immediately find our own likeness in the person who truly throws off his mask.
