Jupiter's weapon is lightning, but what does he do when he is like that? He remains relaxed. It is not often that he is heard making thunder roar; so much so that a foolish person would think that Jupiter was asleep. However, if you place a man of letters or a peasant woman in Jupiter's place, look how the sky thunders!
In addition to being a typical Dostoyevsky novel that follows similar themes with other Dostoyevsky works and contains the basic motifs of Dostoyevsky's narrative, The Young Man has the feature of being an original narrative with a different purpose and words.
We have the opportunity to get to know Arkady Dolgorukiy closely, who reminds us of Prince Myshkin of The Idiot with his youth and naivety, and who can easily be linked to the forty-something hero of Notes from Underground, among similar thoughts and contradictions. While watching the steps of Arkady Dolgorukiy, who may not be a child anymore, but not yet an adult, with the childhood anger and youthful excitement he carries like pus, we feel a sense of compassion, which we did not expect from a Dostoyevsky narrative. Dostoyevsky, who perhaps does not demand such intense compassion for his hero in any other work, seems to be trying to make us understand all the past heroes of his novels through the character of Arkady Dolgorukiy.
Through Arkady, Dostoyevsky makes a clear criticism of Russian social life, where chaos reigns, its moral foundations have been shaken, and the boundary between good and evil has become unclear. On the one hand, Arkady admires Makar Dolgorukiy, the symbol of tradition, and on the other hand, he emulates Versilov, an intellectual; It seems like two future examples are being drawn for Russia. But Dostoyevsky will say that through what he put Arkady through, he saw that something completely different would shape the future of Russia.
With its unforgettable Versilov character and the father-son relationship outlined, The Young Man is like the harbinger of The Brothers Karamazov...
